Big Mosque

Standing on Quiad-E-Milleth High Road is the architecturally splendid Wallajah mosque, better known as Big mosque. It was built in 1789, with Nawab Wallajah's family playing a leading role in its construction.

It is a attractive ones in South. It lies on the Walajah road and is built of grey granite rather than wood of steel. Referred to as the Big mosque (for obvious reasons) it was built by the Wallajah family in 1795 in memory of the Nawab.

The Prince of Arcot is closely associated with this shrine even today. Built without steel or wood, this magnificent edifice at Triplicane is the most important Muslim shrine in Chennai.
