This 'temple of art' was Founded by Rukmini Devi Arundale in 1936 the institution is devoted to the revival of traditional dance, textile designing, and weaving, which are taught in naturally harmonious environs.Kalakshetra ranks amongst the country's finest dance schools.

Classical dance Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music permeate the very fabric of life in Chennai and the Kalakshetra at Tiruvanmiyur is a school of the Indian art epitomising the revival of ancient culture, crafts and heritage.
