Kanchipuram

It is a historic city which serve as the capital of some of the mightest empires of the South. Between the 6th and 8th century it was the headquarters of the Pallava empire. They built some great temples in their period. In later it became the capital of Chola And Vijayanagara empires and was a major seat of a Tamil learning.

Kanchi is also well Known center of the finest silk sarees made in the country. Adishankaracharya established his episopal set (kamakotipeetam) here.Kancheepuram is the birth place of C.N. Annadurai, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu affectionately called as "Anna" By the people of Tamil Nadu.
